NARRS (National Amphibian and Reptile Recording Scheme) was established in 2007 by the Herpetological Conservation Trust (HCT) and is a national survey project to assess the population status of our amphibians and reptiles.
The project depends on the help and involvement of volunteers, who can work induvidually, or as part of groups such as ARGSL.
The NARRS survey has a systematic and carefully planned methodology – more information on this can be found by visiting the NARRS website. To take part in the survey, volunteers need to visit a pond that has been randomly selected by HCT. Any information from other ponds is not required by this survey but is still valuable – please let ARGSL know about it by using our recording page!
In spring of 2007 and 2008 ARGSL ran NARRS training days, and two more will be scheduled for March 2009 (watch the 'Events' page for more info). The aim of the training days is to provide volunteers with enough experience to carry out amphibian surveys to a high standard, even if they have not undertaken surveys before. |
